The increased level of research activity at the Institute has led to a number of staff changes including internal promotions and the appointment of a number of new staff members. It is expected that additional staff will be hired in the coming months to handle such areas as Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) programming, project management, and data quality control.

Renée Elsbett-Koeppen joined the Institute in January 2001. Renée received her MSc in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of Western Ontario. She currently manages research projects at the Institute, including the Rapid Risk Factor Surveillance System (RRFSS) study. Prior to joining ISR, Renée's research areas included 'Employment and Arthritis in the Working Age Population' and 'Non-Pharmacologic Treatment of Arthritis.' |

Gregory Hanson came to ISR in 1991 as a Technical Consultant. Greg holds an Honours BA and MA in Geography, and a BEd, from the University of Windsor. Prior to joining the Institute, he was a Research Assistant with the ARA Group and the Haldimand-Norfolk Information Centre, and a Project Manager at the Data Bank Research Group at the University of Windsor. At ISR, Greg has been responsible for technical support and has managed a number of long-term projects, including Employment Equity for York University's Employment Equity Office and the Adolescent Health Project for the Carolina Population Center. In 2002, Greg was appointed to the position of Assistant Manager: Systems Maintenance and Computer Surveys. In this new role, Greg will be implementing web-based surveys and maintaining web-based services at ISR, and he will continue to provide technical support, program CATI instruments, and manage selected projects. |

Sharon Ramnaraign joined the Institute in August 1997 as an interviewer and was promoted to the position of Field Supervisor in February 1998. In May 2001, Sharon completed her Honours BA in Political Science/Law and Society at York University. In addition to her supervisory responsibilities, Sharon is currently coordinating the pretest for the Early Sun Exposure study that ISR is conducting on behalf of Cancer Care Ontario. Sharon will be continuing her studies in Law in September 2002. |

Richard Myles was promoted to the position of Manager, Computer Survey Methods in August 2001. Rick first joined the Institute in 1986 as an interviewer and was appointed to the position of Telephone Lab Supervisor in 1987. In 1988 Rick left ISR to work as a buyer and quality inspector for a Montreal-based importing company and he worked onsite in over 10 countries in South East Asia. In 1989 Rick returned to the Institute and took over responsibility for the Institute's Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) programming. In addition to these duties, Rick is now responsible for supervising the data entry operations of the Institute and is the Institute's representative to the Computer Assisted Survey Methods Consortium at the University of California, Berkeley. |

Christine Klucha first joined the Institute in 1981 as a face-to-face interviewer for the Quality of Life study and was one of the first interviewers at ISR to complete interviews using CATI in 1986. In 1991 she became a supervisor in the Institute's CATI telephone lab. Over the next few years, Chris became increasingly involved in the hiring and training of interviewers. As a result of the substantial increase in the number of research projects at ISR over the last three years, in October 2001 Chris was given the responsibility for recruiting, hiring and training interviewers at ISR. |

Roberta St. Pierre first worked at the Institute as an interviewer in February 2000 and by August 2000 she had become a part-time Field Supervisor. Upon completion of her BA in Psychology in late 2001, Roberta successfully applied for a full-time position at ISR as Field Supervisor, a position she has held since January 2002. |

Marc Kilchling is the Institute's most recent new employee, having joined our staff in November 2001 as a Field Supervisor. Prior to coming to ISR, Marc worked as a Call Centre Supervisor for three years. He has previously worked as an Assistant Project Co-ordinator at Goldfarb Consultants and as a Supervisor at NPD Group Canada. Marc is currently completing his BBA in International Business from Bishop's University. |
